Crafting Unique Cedar Woodworks & Timberworks
Tables and Charcuterie boards
IMG_0028.png

With the priority of keeping the most natural wood designs and the thickest slabs, least waste and highest quality materials... Tables are built mostly with full logs, stainless steel fasteners, stainless steel connection plates and not much less than 4" inch slabs as a minimum thickness and 1 1/4 inch for Charcuterie. A simple engraving is usually no charge and over-size, complex could range $100+

Custom Designs and Custom Orders
IMG_0029.png

Open to custom designs and new ideas for custom orders! However, because of the nature and origin of these materials a custom order varies in delivery. If there is nothing in the stock that suits your needs, there is a 1-2 year delivery time. Stock items are 3-10 months for tables and 6-10 weeks for Charcuterie. It is appreciated to not cut the stock slabs more than a few inches if it be absolutely necessary.

Custom Wood Railings

Not my mainstream work but having been a professional railing installer for 21 years then have it be fair that I offer custom wood railings and handrails as well.

Custom Orders: How it works...

First, we would come together and decide what is best suited for what you want and design the timberworks. I would then proceed to an ESRI ArcGIS mapping system and use my knowledge and experience of Harrison Lake to find an area that might have the timbers to fit your custom design. I then physically hike the terrain and find the timbers needed and any additional useful timber. Once located, I send the mapping data attached to an application for salvage and if approved, I will harvest the timbers and allow them to air dry indoors for 6-12 months depending on what it is. After that, I will begin the building process. This is not an easy process but the results are astounding!

Why the wood turns out so profound:

Most of the cedar available has almost certainly been cut from a live tree and kiln dried in mass production. This "quick" method is devastating to the live specimens, it drains them of their natural colours and alters the integral fibres of the wood. This is seen most notably in Tone Wood. I would argue that more than 90% of the available cedar, even the air dried slabs, are cut from a near live cedar. Let me be clear, I'm not stating this type of wood is superior to what the vast majority of the live edge market prefers or is use to. It is superior in the sense that it has gone through an entirely natural process and each piece has it's original unique characteristics as it was intended by mother nature. There are no uniform or reliable stocks of this kind of wood.

Not to discredit the common board or live cut air dried slab, they are still beautiful. However, all of this wood inventory is always from a tree that has completed it's life cycle, naturally felled usually by wind-throw and in a difficult scenario to find, one where it's elevated off the ground and not near water and not cliff side. It then sits there for years to even decades before being salvaged. This long natural process gives the wood it's authentic structural integrity, unique characteristics and brilliant colours from slowly air drying through the elements of the seasons, making each tree unique to where it was situated around the lake, it's elevation and the scenario it fell in.

Finishes and New Materials

I always recommend and prefer the Osmo Topoil finishes. They are non-toxic, food safe hard-wax oils and are just so darn pretty. They really bring out the natural variations, grain, fibres and colours of the wood. But of course, that is only my recommendation.

New materials such as Big Leaf Maple and Douglas Fir are going to be integrated into some of the new designs later in 2027, so keep in touch and check in.
